This presentation of the historical story was really well done and certainly the highlight of the movie for me. Place some rough edges, there is still a lot to admire Agora. It is hugely epic in scale, and designed beautifully by director Alejandro Amenabar and his production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas. I would not be be surprised if it gets an Oscar nomination for production design, and it certainly deserves, as the records were plentiful and large in scale, but also elaborately described. Agora was actually a true cinematic transportation back to ancient Egypt and Amenabar deserves heaps of praise for the least drag. While the relationships in the story were underdeveloped, I could at least appreciate the visuals. This movie has the swagger to be mistaken for a big-budget studio production, but it's still a few subtleties worth appreciating because of the great vision of Amenabar. When a little more time in the development of the script would have stayed, maybe it could have even better. Agora also suffers ever so slightly by the Australia effect - at one point in the middle, the story jumps a few years ago, and the division could be the perfect place break the film in two. But I , for my part, will argue that Agora is great as it is, and I'll be happy to reconsider it again in the future, if not at least appreciate the epic historical story.
